Abstract: This thesis analyzes the use of mobile devices in university students' self-study habits, with the goal of providing a thorough knowledge of how these devices are integrated into their daily study routines. The study investigates the various mobile technologies utilized by students, their extent and frequency of usage, and the resultant effects on learning performance and effectiveness. It also looks into the problems and challenges of using mobile devices for self-study of English. Data were acquired from fifty-two English - majored students in Course 18 using a combination of surveys, thorough questionnaires, and in-depth interviews. The findings demonstrated that mobile devices were widely used for a variety of educational tasks, such as accessing digital textbooks, looking for information on websites, and learning through interactive multimedia. Students reported considerable benefits such as greater study flexibility and access to a wider range of learning tools. The study also cited some issues related with mobile device use such as potential diversions from noneducational content and the need to improve time management skills in order to reduce these distractions. Based on the findings, the report made practical recommendations to schools, the teachers and students. These suggestions included incorporating mobile learning practices into university curricula, training both students and teachers on how to utilize mobile devices successfully, and developing guidelines to assist students manage their study time more efficiently. The findings of this study added to a deeper understanding of the changing higher education landscape and the critical role that mobile technology plays in supporting students' learning and self-directed learning practices.
