Abstract: | People widely recognise social media’s integral role in second language acquisition. However, effectively leveraging these platforms to enhance English proficiency presents both substantial advantages and difficulties. In light of this, a study entitled “A Research on Impacts of Social Media on English Language Acquisition among English-Majored Students at Tay Do University” was conducted. Its goal was to identify some potential benefits and challenges encountered by English majors at Tay Do University when using social media for language learning. A total of 146 students from English courses (15, 16, 17, and 18) participated in the study. Both the questionnaire and the interview were employed as two primary research instruments to analyze the collected data. The findings shed light on a range of positive and negative impacts experienced by these students when using social media for language acquisition, including multimedia resources, collaborative learning, motivational engagement, distraction and time consumption, limitations of face-to-face interaction, and technological overdependence. Subsequently, practical implications and potential recommendations for further research in similar domains are suggested. |
