dc.description.abstractIt goes without saying that listening and speaking play fundamental roles in communication and learning languages. Watching English movies brings us a lot of advantages in listening and speaking skills development not only by diverse vocabulary and grammar but also by motivating and inspiring the students in learning. For this reason, the study entitled “An investigation into the perceptions of watching English movies in developing listening and speaking skills of English-majored sophomores at Tay Do University” was implemented to find out about English-majored sophomores’ perceptions of watching English movies to develop listening and speaking skills. This study was conducted at Tay Do University, specifically on the students who took the Listening and Speaking class. There were 64 sophomores from Bachelor of English courses 15A and 15B at Tay Do University who were selected as participants of the study. Questionnaires were delivered to all participants for collecting data and getting more information about the background of the respondents, students’ level of agreement on English skills, students’ level of agreement on the positive effects of watching English movies on listening skills, students’ level of agreement on the positive effects of watching English movies on speaking skills and students’ level of agreement on the negative effects of watching English movies. Besides, the Interview questions were delivered to 20 random of 64 participants to get more about their perceptions of watching English movies to develop listening and speaking skills. The collected data from the two instruments mentioned above were all analyzed afterward. The findings indicated that English-majored sophomores were aware that they could improve their listening and speaking skills by watching English movies and were also facing some negative effects of watching English movies.vi
