Abstract: In recent times, English has become the global language and plays an important role in order for people's communication and fitting into the real world. English speaking skill has become a need for many people, particularly the young generation. Motivation is regarded as an influential factor in the success of any activity. It plays a significant role in reaching the desired goals, including learning English speaking. This research aims to analyze the students' motivation and factors that motivate students to learn speaking English. The participants in this study included 42 English majored sophomores at Tay Do University. Questionnaire and interview were delivered to all participants for collecting data and getting more information. The collected data from the two instruments mentioned above were all analyzed afterward. The findings show that the students that participated in the study were highly motivated in English learning. The study also examined some factors that influence motivation such as factors from students, classroom environments, factors from teachers, and students’ other relationships in learning English speaking. The factors that motivate the students during the learning English-speaking process were also discussed. Some recommendations would be given to improve the students' motivation in learning English speaking. The research findings contribute to improve English teaching and learning quality in Vietnam in general and at Tay Do University in particular.
